7 Things You Need in Your Closet This Winter

Chris Klemens

It started to snow very heavily while I was in my Uber this morning, and it totally hit me that it's officially winter. I feel like the weather has been hoodie weather for so long that I haven't even thought of winter.

Because of the cold, the snow, the ice, etc., being prepared for the cold months ahead is important, which is why I have put together a list of 7 things you need in your closet to help you survive the winter!

1. RAINS MSN BACKPACK IN RUST - $91

As someone who always has a backpack and is on the go, the last thing I need to worry about is the contents of my backpack (laptop, camera, etc.) getting wet and ruined. What I love about this waterproof backpack is that it is both stylish and useful. Also, in the winter, especially, it is so easy to find yourself wearing all black (guilty), so having something small and colorful, like a backpack, is a great way to add a pop of color to your winter wardrobe.

2. THE ARRIVALS MOYA II OVERSIZED SHEARLING - $995

Jackets are incredibly important in the witner, obviously. I know a lot of you may look at the price and your head will spin more than the girl from The Exorcist, but if I have learned anything, it's to not fuck around with jackets. Good jackets are investments. I have probably spent this much money on shitty jackets that last only one season. This jacket is technically a woman's jacket, but it looks amazing and keeps me beyond warm, even when I'm wearing a tee.

3. L.L. BEAN LEATHER/CASHMERE TOUCHSCREEN GLOVES - $69

I feel like I am stating the obvious, but GLOVES PEOPLE!! My hands get destroyed in the winter because I am stubborn and hate lotion. Having gloves that protect my hands from the cold winter weather is super important to me. These gloves are so warm and comfortable, but dont worry! You're still able to post that Instagram of your Starbucks hot chocolate because they are tech-compatible as well. Find a glove who can do both, am I right? Also, I love having a glove that is quite stylish, and you can't go wrong with black leather.

4. SOREL COZY CARNIVAL LACE UP ANKLE BOOTS - $115

Footwear in the winter is so important. As someone who east shit almost everywhere they go in the winter, I can fully say that statement with confidence. Finding boots that give you good traction as well as warmth is the key. And if they look as stylish as these Sorel boots, that's the ultimate winter boot. As you can tell, I love black and white pieces because it makes mixing and matching way easier. I love these boots because they keep you're feet warm without sacrificing style and comfortability.

5. TOPMAN CAMEL CHUNKY BEANIE HAT - $20

This is a no brainer, but having a ton of thick, chunky beanies are always the way to go. Not to get statistical or whatnot but 45% of your body heat is lost through your head, so keeping it covered is crucial in the winter months. There are a lot of great brands like Acne Studios who have really great beanies, but if you are on more of a budget, stores like Topman/Topshop and Urban Outfitters have really great beanie options like this that will keep you warm in the frigid weather.

6. CHAMPION + UO REVERSE WEAVE SCRIPT LOGO SWEATPANT - $65

I don't care what your style is, everyone needs a solid pair of sweatpants in their wardrobe. In my case, I apparently need 17 pairs of sweatpants in my wardrobe (true story...). I am, overall, a huge fan of the brand Champion because everything feels really well made. I would wear these around my apartment or out to run errands because they fit into my style very seamlessly. I just love the forrest green and maroon colors these sweats come in. Winter is all about being comfy, and you will certainly be comfortable in these.

7. L.L. BEAN WICKED GOOD SLIPPERS - $79

Winter is all about comfort, and I cannot convey to you how important slippers are. Will you survive the winter without them? Sure. But there are very few things better than a good pair of slippers in the winter. I got these slippers a few years ago from my Nana, and they make me look forward to winter. I know, it sounds extremely ridiculous, but these keep your feet so warm and are so comfortable. Along with being cozy, they are extremely durable and have lasted me quite a long time.

I am just now realizing that my list of essentials went from clean and chic to homeless lumberjack real fast, but I truly stand by these products when the cold weather rolls in.
